Job Description Assistant Teacher needed in our Boys & Girls Clubs Child Development Center's Salmon classroom. Position works within the program assisting the Lead Teacher and requires a high standard of care and enthusiasm for working with toddlers (18 - 36 months) and their families. Although this position is designated as working with a specific age group; this position also requires working with children ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age to meet the ratio needs of the child development center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: • Assist with workshops, activities, and events under the direction of the Senior Instructor or Supervisor • Observe BGC policies and procedures at all times • Adhere to all CDC guidelines and expectations as written in BGC Employee Handbook, BGC Policy and Procedure Manual, and MOA Licensing Code • Supervise children according to licensing standards • Assist staff with maintaining MOA ratio requirements; this may require moving from classroom to classroom and working with different ages • Assist with program planning and development as directed by Lead Teacher and Program Manager • Use positive behavior support with children consistently • Complete and turn-in well written incident reports to the Program Manager by the end schedule shift • Maintain assigned classroom neatly and safely and assist in upkeep of child care area utilizing appropriate forms and checklists • Serve meals and snacks according to CACFP guidelines and regulations • Follow and maintain all required CACFP record keeping guidelines and procedures • Maintain positive relations with supervisor, co-workers, volunteers and parents • Administer first aid as stipulated in child care licensing and certification standards • Identify high needs youth (e.g., those at risk for abuse, neglect, gang involvement, substance abuse, depression, suicide), and report to supervisor for follow-up/profiling, or mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse • Punctual and reliable attendance • Assist in implementing all licensed child care and BGC programs as needed or as assigned by supervisor or other manager • Attend a minimum of 4 CACFP mandatory trainings per calendar year • Attend a minimum of 20 hours of training annually and/or any additional training deemed necessary by your supervisor. Training must pertain to childcare and/or be approved by MOA licensing and Boys & Girls Clubs • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in required staff meetings • Accurately record hours worked and complete timesheets by required payroll deadline • Demonstrate flexibility to changing priorities and assume additional duties as required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. • High School diploma or graduation equivalency degree (GED); three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience • Basic understanding of child development, generally acquired through a minimum of 6 months' experience tutoring, mentoring, or supervising children. • Good oral and written communication skills • Above average problem solving skills • Current First Aid and CPR certification • At least 18 years of age • Ability to relate to young children and to maintain good relations with peers • Enthusiasm and flexibility • Punctual and reliable attendance • Ability to pass background and fingerprint clearance

This is a regular, full-time position, 40hrs/wk, $10.75/hr DOE/Q with a competitive benefits package.
