YDP2-Program Aide (Mountain View Community Center)
Job Description The Mountain View Community Center is looking for a YDP2-Program Aide to supervise school-age youth and safely coordinate activities provided within the Boys & Girls Clubs' five core program areas. Efforts will result in a recreation program with high energy and activity level that is highly patronized by members, and an atmosphere that is positive and inviting to all members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: • Contribute to an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. • Youth Development Strategy is used in all interactions with youth. • Plan and implement daily, weekly, and monthly lessons and activities. • Track all program participation accurately in the prescribed reporting tools/forms. • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend changes as necessary. • Promote and stimulate program participation through, but not limited to, ensuring quality bulletin boards, posters and banners highlighting youth achievement and activities, and reflecting members' work and input. • Greet members and participate in their club orientation process; conduct club tours. • Provide positive guidance and role modeling to members. • Implement department activities and other events as directed. Assist members with homework. • Maintain accurate inventories of equipment and materials related to assigned program area and notify supervisor of any shortages or items needing repair. • Maintaining equipment and facility, program areas and supplies, ensuring a consistently clean, inviting appearance and an environment that is safe for members and staff. • Assess facility needs and perform janitorial and minor maintenance duties, including but not limited to: cleaning walls, floors and restrooms; removing trash; removing ice and snow from walkways; changing light bulbs; repairing equipment. • Immediately correct safety concerns such as spills, equipment not stored correctly, doors left unlocked, etc. • Move throughout activity area without disrupting youth traffic flow and activities. Recognize and react quickly to problems--arguing, bullying, fighting, horseplay—and stop the undesirable activity quickly, using Boys & Girls Clubs Effective Guidance and Discipline principles. • Respond to injuries and signs of illness, and ensure emergency procedures are followed. • Complete incident reports timely and accurately per Boys & Girls Clubs policies and procedures. • Observe BGC policies and procedures at all times. • Develop familiarity with and participate in Commitment to Quality Process. • Identify high needs youth (e.g., those at risk for abuse, neglect, gang involvement, substance abuse, depression, suicide), and report to supervisor for follow-up/profiling or mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse. • Report for duty and work assigned shifts with punctual and reliable attendance. • Accurately record hours worked and complete timesheets by required payroll deadline • Complete all required training courses as scheduled and continue to update and maintain current skills. • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in required staff meetings. • Maintain close, daily communication with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel. • Provide customer service to adults and other user groups in the facility. • Demonstrate flexibility to changing priorities and assume additional duties as required.
Passenger Transportation Operate passenger vans or passenger buses to transport children, which requires in some cases ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s license, and in all cases adherence to applicable state transportation and federal commercial motor vehicle safety regulations and Boys & Girls Clubs transportation policies/procedures, participation in drug and alcohol screening program, and responsibility for daily and week vehicle safety inspections and mileage readings.
Non-essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: May participate in special outreach programs and/or events.
QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required. • At least 18 years of age. • High school diploma or equivalency. • Basic understanding of youth development, generally acquired through a minimum of 6 months' experience tutoring, mentoring, or supervising school-age youth. • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally, including ability to communicate with youths and get their attention when they are playing and environment is noisy. • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe manner. • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. • Ability to handle a variety of tasks at one time correctly. • Ability to maintain good relations with peers and general public. • Ability to work evenings, weekends as required and adapt to schedule changes. • Must pass criminal records check. • Good problem solving skills. • Creativity and high energy level.
Preferred Qualifications: • Must be 21 years of age or older. • Current Alaska driver’s license and proof of personal automobile insurance. • Good driving record and three years driving experience. • Must pass Dept. of Transportation medical exam, and pre-employment drug screen. • Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License as necessary.

This is a temporary part-time position, 20hrs/wk with potential of becoming a regular part-time position based on need, $10.00/hr DOE/Q.
