Diesel Mechanic



Job Description
This position repairs and maintenance on trucks, machines and heavy equipment to maximize safe and productive operations. Assists and provides guidance to other team members in repairs and maintenance. Representative Responsibilities 1. Diagnoses mechanical problems. 2. Performs repairs and maintenance on vehicles, machines or heavy equipment to maximize safe and productive operations. 3. Trains and assists team members on methods for diagnosing and repairing vehicles and equipment. 4. Schedules or assigns work to Mechanics, PM Mechanics or other Maintenance Shop personnel. 5. Coordinates and/or transports vehicles to outside service for repairs, as needed. 6. Tests vehicles to troubleshoot problems and/or tests repairs to ensure proper and safe completion. 7. Reads and interprets VCRs (vehicle condition reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. Discusses preventive techniques with drivers to minimize future repairs. 8. Completes paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounts for applied times (work order times versus time card times). 9. Prepares purchase orders and researches best prices on parts or repairs from vendors. 10. Makes emergency road calls to repair trucks. 11. Discusses maintenance issues, contracts and warranty work with vendors. 12. Retrofits older trucks with new equipment. 13. Follows all safety policies and procedures. 14. Communicates regularly with the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager regarding work schedules, job assignments, and other shop issues. 15. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Job Requirements 1. Equivalent of (1) high school diploma or G.E.D. certification and 1 to 3 years of truck or heavy equipment maintenance, including hydraulics; OR (2) 6 years of truck or heavy equipment maintenance experience, including hydraulics. 2. Valid driver license. 3. Welding and/or fabrication skills.
