Under general supervision, facilitates creation of artwork by individuals in art program.
Education and/or Experience Associates degree in arts related field or combination of relevant education/experience required for this position. Must have a strong personal portfolio and demonstrate a successful track record of working in an arts related field.
Other Skills and Abilities Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable and flexible to performing under moderate levels of stress when confronted with an emergency. Must meet LIFESPAN’s Driver Selection Criteria (SM 100-022). Must provide proof of car insurance, if providing community-based services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Understands and models the philosophy of the art program.
Takes a person centered (individualized) approach toward the individuals who participate in the art program.
Objectively demonstrates artistic techniques to individuals clearly and precisely.
Offers objective advice and mentoring to enable individuals to complete work.
Ensures enough high quality art is produced to stock quarterly art shows.
Assists in preparation of artwork for sales (matting framing etc.).
Attends evening and weekend events as required.
Assists in developing community contacts with artists, galleries, etc.
Engages individuals in community activities (including Community Pottery program) and transports them as required.
Photographs and archives artist’s work.
Keeps records of all art sales.
Networks with a diverse section of the community.
Works a flexible schedule, as required.
Organizes and inventories materials in the art studio.
Purchases materials as needed.
Develops sound and creative ideas under limited supervision.
Demonstrates willingness and ability to gain new skills
Abides by, enforces and participates in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all LIFESPAN safety standards and regulations. Proactively identifies health and safety issues and identifies ways to solve them.
Completes Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms, identifies the need for and obtains Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for individuals. Flags the need for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for new materials that come into the studio
Assists with design and organization of yearly drama production.
Assists in or independently develops ideas for enrichment projects for individuals in enrichment program.
Produces weekly project sheet and trains enrichment staff.
Upholds the rights of individuals at all times.
Maintains individuals’ confidentiality at all times.
Adhere to the principles of the LIFESPAN Training Curriculum.
