Respite Care Specialist – Sub (170)



Job Description
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, is responsible for supervising and assisting individuals in activities of daily living.


Minimum Requirements

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required for this position. A minimum of 2 years of experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities or related experience is preferred, but not required.

Other Skills and Abilities
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable and flexible to performing under moderate levels of stress when confronted with an emergency. Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License (required for community-based services) or a valid picture ID. Must provide proof of car insurance, if providing community-based services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Provide relief for a family or primary caregiver on an interim basis. Services may be provided either in the individual’s home or in an out of home setting.

Work with families during family emergencies or planned special circumstances so that the caregiver can shop, run errands, and perform other tasks.

Provide relief from the daily responsibility and stress of caring for a special needs person.

Adhere to the principles of the State Mandated Core Competency Training Curriculum.

Communicate professionally and positively with individuals, parents, caregivers visitors and other professionals.

Remain in compliance with all North Carolina State Standards.

Participate in all relevant services for individual receiving respite services.

Abide by all standards and regulations in LIFESPAN’s Individual Respite Contract Agreement.

Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all LIFESPAN safety standards and regulations.

Additional and/or Program Specific Responsibilities:

Innovations/Community Support Enhanced Service Competencies:
When providing Innovations or Community Support Enhanced services, the employee will be receive specific training as per the type of Innovations/Community Support service by Qualified LIFESPAN supervisors/trainers or an outside endorsed trainer within the specified amount of time as identified by the rules that govern the State of North Carolina. This requirement will be the responsibility of the immediate supervisor to insure compliance within the specified time according to the rules that govern the State of North Carolina.
