Job Description Job Summary: Under limited supervision, is responsible for supervising and assisting an individual with developmental disabilities with his/her daily needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Summary: Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Provide relief for a family or primary caregiver on an interim basis. Services may be provided either in the individual’s home or in an out of home setting. Work with families during family emergencies or planned special circumstances so that the caregiver can shop, run errands, and perform other tasks. Provide relief from the daily responsibility and stress of caring for a special needs person. Adhere to the principles of the State Mandated Core Competency Training Curriculum. Remain in compliance with all North Carolina State Standards. Participate in all relevant services for individual receiving respite services. Abide by all standards and regulations in LIFESPAN’s Individual Respite Contract Agreement. Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all LIFESPAN safety standards and regulations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, you must demonstrate the following competencies. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required for this position. Some experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred. Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable and flexible to performing under moderate levels of stress when confronted with an emergency. Ability to withstand heavy lifting and the ability to transport individuals to various locations is required. Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools. Knowledge and understanding of telephone etiquette. Working knowledge of general clerical practices and procedures. Ability to apply specific department rules and regulations relating to the care of the individuals. Working knowledge and ability to use technology to include computers, scanners, communication systems and other systems. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with a variety of individuals and groups. Working knowledge of LIFESPAN CHOICES Training Curriculum. Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and approved automobile insurance are required.
