Job Description Job Summary: Under limited supervision, is responsible for transporting individuals we support to and from program, activities, events and various locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Summary: Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Drive vehicle from individual residence or central loading area to destination according to assigned schedule. Assist passengers into and out of vehicle. Secure passengers' wheelchairs and/or other equipment to devices to stabilize during trips. Operate radio or cell phone to communicate with program to report any disruption of service. Clean (inside and out) and service vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories. Keep records of trips and behavior of passengers to share with program management as needed. Maintain company trucks and vans by keeping a maintenance schedule of repairs. Help as needed in the program when not driving the van when requested. Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all LIFESPAN safety standards and regulations.

A valid NC driver’s license with an accident free driving record is required. Proof of car insurance required. Ability to communicate clearly expressing ideas and thoughts verbally and in writing; Exhibits good listening and comprehension. Responds to the care and concerns of the individuals with accurate information in an effective and timely manner while working in a team environment. Ability to withstand heavy lifting and to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools. Knowledge and understanding of telephone etiquette. Working knowledge of general clerical practices and procedures. Ability to apply specific department rules and regulations relating to the care of the individuals. Working knowledge and ability to use technology to include computers, scanners, communication systems and other systems. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with a variety of individuals and groups. Working knowledge of LIFESPAN CHOICES Training Curriculum.
