BBA Afterschool Inc. is hiring patient, enthusiastic, and dependable K–1 Academic Tutors to provide engaging academic support for Kindergarten and 1st-grade students in Silver Spring, MD.

This position is focused on helping young learners strengthen their foundational academic skills through fun, age-appropriate activities and personalized support. Tutors will work with students in a supportive after-school environment and help build confidence, classroom skills, and a positive attitude toward learning.

Position Details

• Part-time, after-school position

• Afternoon after-school hours

• 1.5-hour sessions

• $45 per session ($30 per hour)

• Monday through Friday

• No weekends

• No lesson planning required

• Curriculum and materials provided

• In-person position in Silver Spring

Program Focus

Tutors will support K–1 students with foundational academic skills, including:

Reading & Language Arts

• Letter and sound recognition

• Phonics and early reading

• Sight words

• Vocabulary development

• Reading fluency

• Basic reading comprehension

• Early writing and language skills

Math

• Number recognition and counting

• Number sense

• Addition and subtraction

• Patterns and sequencing

• Shapes and measurement

• Comparing numbers and quantities

• Basic problem-solving

Responsibilities

• Provide engaging academic support to Kindergarten and 1st-grade students

• Reinforce foundational reading, writing, and math concepts

• Use age-appropriate activities to make learning fun and engaging

• Provide individual and small-group support

• Encourage student participation and confidence

• Follow BBA's structured curriculum and activities

• Maintain a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment

• Communicate professionally with school staff and BBA leadership
