Position Overview
Bottke Dental is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Remote Medical Billing Specialist to manage billing and reimbursement activities, maintain accurate patient account records, and help ensure timely and accurate payment processing. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of dental/medical billing practices, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, submit, and follow up on dental and medical insurance claims.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage details.
- Review claims for accuracy and resolve billing discrepancies or rejected claims.
- Post insurance payments, patient payments, adjustments, and account credits accurately.
- Monitor outstanding claims and accounts receivable and follow up on unpaid balances.
- Process insurance denials, appeals, and claim corrections as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient billing and insurance records.
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status, benefits, and payment issues.
- Respond to patient billing inquiries and explain account balances, insurance payments, and billing procedures professionally.
- Coordinate with dental office staff to resolve documentation, coding, and billing issues.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and comply with applicable privacy and billing regulations.
- Generate billing reports and assist with account reconciliation and other administrative duties.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in medical or dental billing, preferably within a dental practice.
- Knowledge of dental insurance plans, claims processing, coding, and reimbursement procedures.
- Familiarity with dental practice management and billing software.
- Strong understanding of insurance eligibility, claim denials, and accounts receivable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common billing or practice-management systems.
- High level of professionalism and commitment to patient confidentiality.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with dental insurance carriers and clearinghouses.
- Knowledge of CDT and/or ICD-10 coding.
- Experience handling insurance appeals and denied claims.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Previous experience working remotely in a healthcare or dental billing environment.
