Job Description
About Building BLOCS
Building BLOCS is a pediatric ABA and speech-language therapy clinic in Austin, Texas. We work primarily with children between 18 months and 6 years old who have autism, language delays, social communication differences, or challenging behavior. Most of our families have very young children who are still figuring out how to move through the world, and our job is to support that process with skill, warmth, and respect.
Our clinical approach is naturalistic and play-based. We use principles from the Early Start Denver Model and other naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions. That means therapy happens inside real, day to day interactions — during play, during daily living routines, during songs. Our therapy looks like a child's day might at home or preschool.
We take assent very seriously. We think about what a child is communicating at every moment, and we recognize that part of our job is to nurture children and help them learn to regulate and communicate their emotions and intent.
We are locally owned and intentionally hands-on. Founded by a BCBA and an SLP, they are involved in the quality assurance and decision making at the center daily.
What the role actually looks like
You will spend most of your day in session with young children in our clinic. Some sessions are 1:1, some are in a group. Sessions are built around the child — their interests, their communication, their regulation, and their goals.
In a given day, you might chase bubbles with a toddler who is just starting to point, sing the same song twelve times because it is working, navigate a meltdown with patience and without reactivity, use a cause-and-effect toy to practice requesting, take data, and share observations with your supervisor so the team can make thoughtful clinical decisions.
This work is active. You are on the floor. You are moving. You are playing. You are helping children through hard moments. You are paying attention for the full session, even when the session does not go exactly the way anyone planned.
You will receive structured training, ongoing supervision, and regular feedback.
Who tends to do well here
We have noticed that the people who thrive at Building BLOCS share some things in common.
They genuinely enjoy young children — the group chat is full of things their client did that made them smile or made them proud. All day, every day. They are flexible and creative. They can follow a child’s lead without losing track of the goal. They stay calm when a child is upset because they understand that co-regulation is part of the job.
They are also reliable. They show up. They communicate clearly when something changes. They understand that when they call out, someone else’s schedule falls apart and that our kids (and therapists) thrive with predictability.
The best candidates are curious about child development and want to understand the why behind what they are doing. Many of our staff are working toward careers in behavior analysis, speech-language pathology, psychology, education, early childhood, or a related field. That interest tends to show up in how they engage with training, supervision, and feedback.
