Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to provide tax, accounting, financial reporting, and advisory services to a diverse client base.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, client-focused, and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines, particularly during busy tax seasons. This individual will work closely with individuals and businesses to provide high-quality tax compliance, planning, accounting, and financial advisory services.
Essential Responsibilities
Tax Services
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for:
- Individuals
- Partnerships
- S Corporations
- C Corporations
- Trusts and estates
- Nonprofit organizations
- Conduct tax research and analyze complex tax matters.
- Develop tax planning strategies designed to minimize tax liabilities and maximize savings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Respond to IRS and state tax notices and correspondence.
- Assist clients with tax audits and examinations as needed.
- Stay informed about changes in tax legislation and regulations that may affect clients.
Accounting & Financial Services
- Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, and related documentation.
- Assist clients with bookkeeping, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
- Analyze financial information and provide practical recommendations.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare compiled and reviewed financial statements in accordance with applicable professional standards.
- Identify accounting issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
Client Advisory Services
- Serve as a trusted financial and business advisor to individual clients and business owners.
- Advise clients on entity selection, business growth, succession planning, and cash flow management.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Meet with clients regularly to discuss tax planning, financial results, and strategic opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with applicable AICPA standards, Montana Board of Public Accountants requirements, and professional standards.
- Stay current with changes in tax laws, accounting regulations, and relevant industry trends.
- Mentor and support junior accounting staff.
- Assist with workflow management, review procedures, and quality control.
- Contribute to business development and client relationship initiatives.
- Participate in community and professional engagement activities as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of public accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
- Experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns.
- Proficiency with accounting, tax, and financial reporting software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of public accounting experience.
- Experience providing tax planning and consulting services.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks and cloud-based accounting platforms.
- Experience supervising, training, or mentoring accounting staff.
- Knowledge of accounting and tax matters involving small businesses and closely held companies.
