Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the design and documentation of HVAC systems for a diverse range of educational, civic, cultural, healthcare, commercial, and institutional building projects.
This is a growth-oriented position for a mechanical design professional interested in developing their technical skills and progressing toward professional licensure. The role involves close collaboration with architects, interior designers, structural engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing engineers, and project managers throughout the design and construction process.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design of HVAC and mechanical systems for building projects
- Prepare mechanical construction documents, drawings, and specifications
- Perform HVAC design load calculations and energy modeling
- Assist with equipment selection and system sizing
- Conduct site visits to document and verify existing field conditions
- Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other disciplines
- Review drawings and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and coordination
- Support project teams throughout the design and construction phases
- Participate in project meetings and interdisciplinary coordination efforts
- Assist with field observations and construction administration as needed
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of relevant experience in HVAC or mechanical building design
- Experience with HVAC system design and preparation of construction documents
- Knowledge of fundamental mechanical engineering and HVAC design principles
- Experience with load calculation and/or energy modeling software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Interest in pursuing professional engineering licensure
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project team
Preferred
- FE exam passed and/or EIT designation
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit MEP
- Familiarity with Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IES VE, or comparable load calculation and energy modeling software
- Experience with COMcheck and energy code compliance documentation
- Previous field experience verifying existing building conditions
- Familiarity with applicable mechanical, energy, and building codes
- Experience working on educational, civic, institutional, cultural, healthcare, or commercial projects
