The District
The Freeport School District is a network of 8 schools and serves as a vibrant hub of learning nestled within the heart of Freeport. We serve a diverse population of approximately 7,100 students and seek a knowledgeable, dynamic, child-centered and experienced administrator to serve as Principal. We are seeking an administrator with a keen understanding of the middle school curriculum, the social and emotional needs of all students as well as an understanding of the importance of the school as part of the community. A successful candidate will be comfortable adopting rigorous curricula, increasing educational options for students, and holding staff accountable for improving student achievement while giving them strong performance incentives and the authority to make critical instructional decisions.

Compensation & Position Details:
Salary Range | $172, 588 - $215, 731 Commensurate with experience, per the Freeport Administrators Association collective bargaining agreement. Competitive Nassau County compensation package. |

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet all of the following requirements to be considered:
ü Valid New York State administrative certification (SBL, SDL, or SDA)
ü Master’s degree or higher in education, educational leadership, or a closely related field
ü Minimum of five (5) years of elementary school classroom teaching experience
ü Minimum of four (4) years of building-level administrative experience at the k-8 school level (assistant principal or principal)
ü Demonstrated, measurable success improving student outcomes at the intermediate/middle school level
ü Experience working with diverse student populations, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities
ü Deep knowledge of NYS standards, assessments, and middle school graduation requirements
The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate:
• A proven track record of instructional leadership using data to drive targeted improvements in teaching and student achievement
• Experience developing, coaching, evaluating, and retaining high-quality teachers and staff, with a strong focus on professional growth
• Expertise in elementary and middle school curriculum development, program design, and course sequencing aligned to NYS standards and multiple student learning pathways
• Commitment to equity-driven leadership, including demonstrated success expanding access to rigorous coursework and closing achievement gaps for underserved student populations
• Strong community partnership skills; ability to build authentic, lasting relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders
• Proficiency in leveraging technology for building management, instructional improvement, and stakeholder communication
• Experience managing building-level budgets and operational systems effectively and transparently
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead difficult conversations and build consensus across diverse groups
• Cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming school environment where all students and staff feel valued and supported
• Systems-level thinking in curriculum development, classroom management, and data-driven program evaluation
• A proven track record of implementing MTSS protocols at this grade level.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are not required but will strengthen a candidate’s application:
• Doctoral degree in education or educational leadership
• Experience leading a comprehensive intermediate or middle school (grades 5-8 or 5 & 6) with an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students
• Familiarity with Infinite Campus or a comparable Student Information System
• Experience leading school improvement or turnaround initiatives with documented outcomes
• Prior experience in a demographically comparable urban or suburban school district
• Teaching or administrative experience in a NYS public school district
