Behavioral Health Director

Job Summary
Ther Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for planning, developing, directing, and coordinating mental health programs within Petersburg Medical Center. Work involves developing new and revised services, program standards, policies, and regulations. The employee supervises and manages all activities of the Behavioral Health Department within the framework of the established mission, vision and values of Petersburg Medical Center.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical supervision to and oversee direct services provided by behavioral health staff.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and complete reports on the operations of behavioral health services, including measures of effectiveness and achievement of operational performance as defied in the strategic plan.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership including advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to achieve the clinical and administrative goals and objectives of the department.
  • Oversee budgeting and financial management of behavioral health services.
  • Cultivate positive relationships and maintain an environment of collaboration and integration at all levels of the organization.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with the Medical Director to facilitate integrated care services.
  • Ensure all departmental activities and operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations and all laws governing healthcare operations.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate departmental staff.
  • Coordinate care with other community agencies and develop strong referral relationships based on the needs of the clients served.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new services and programs.
  • Oversee departmental grants and projects, including development of budgets, grant applications, and other funding opportunities.
  • Conduct quality improvement reviews, reports, and departmental performance improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee all aspects of the behavioral health internship program including development, curriculum, supervision, and mentorship.
  • Participate in the interviewing, hiring, and disciplinary processes of departmental staff, interns, and independent contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related behavioral health field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in behavioral health services. Management or supervisory experience in a healthcare or behavioral health setting.
  • Strong clinical background in mental health or substance use treatment services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or similar clinical credential.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Strong Leadership and organizational skills.
  • Proven experience in program development and implementation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current behavioral health practices, trends, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Experience working within electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Familiarity with healthcare budgeting and financial management.
  • Knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations related to behavioral health services.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, service excellence, and ethical professional standards.

Requirements for employment include --
  • Background Check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation conducted through the State of Alaska in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Drug Screening. All employees must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for marijuana.
  • Immunization Compliance. Employees are required to meet all immunization requirements as mandated by the State of Alaska and Federal regulations governing healthcare facilities.
