Facility Engineer I / Facility Engineer II

Job Summary
The Facility Engineer is highly skilled and safety-focused Engineer with a licensed trade background (e.g., electrician, plumber, HVAC technician, or similar skilled trade). This role supports the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of PMC's physical plant and critical infrastructure systems. The Facility Engineer ensues reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance of building systems in accordance with local, state and federal requirements including CMS Conditions of Participation and applicable NFPA standards. Placement as Facility Engineer I or II will be based on licensure level, experience, healthcare facility exposure and demonstrated competency.
Position Levels
Facility Engineer I
Overview.
Entry to mid-level licensed trade professional who applies primary trade expertise while developing broader competency in healthcare facility systems and compliance requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair within licensed trade scope (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.)
- Assist with operation and monitoring of: (1) Power distribution and emergency systems; (2) HVAC and mechanical systems; (3) Domestic water and plumbing systems; and (4) Life Safety
- Execute preventive maintenance tasks as assigned
- Respond to facility service requests and work orders
- Assist with life safety testing and documentation
- Support contractors during inspections and projects
Qualifications -- Level I
- Valid and current Driver's license
- Valida Alaska trade license or Certificate of Fitness in a relevant trade -- REQUIRED
- Two to five years of commercial, industrial or institutional experience
- Healthcare facility experience preferred but not required
- Basic knowledge of NFPA and life safety principles
- Ability to read and interpret plans and technical documentation
Facility Engineer II
Overview
Advanced licensed trade professional with demonstrated healthcare facility experience and competency in regulatory compliance, critical infrastructure reliability and independent troubleshooting. Provides technical leadership within Plant Operations and may serve as lead on regulatory compliance systems.
Primary Responsibilities
Includes all Level I duties plus --
- Independently troubleshoots and repair complex facility system
- Lead preventive maintenance program development within trade area
- Oversee and document compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation
- Ensue adherence to NFPA standards (including 70, 70E, 99, 110 as applicable)
- Lead testing and documentation of: (1) Emergency generators and transfer switches; (2) Fire alarm and life safety systems; and (3) Medical gas systems (as applicable)
- Assist with capital planning, infrastructure upgrades and facility projects
- Review construction documents related to facility systems
- Serve as technical liaison with contractors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies
- Mentor Facility Engineer I staff
- Participate in emergency preparedness planning and drills
Qualifications -- Level II
- Valid and current Driver's license
- Valid Alaska trade license or higher-level certification
- Five plus years of commercial, industrial or healthcare facility experience
- Demonstrated healthcare plant operations experience strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of CMS Conditions of Participation
- Strong familiarity with applicable NFPA codes
- Proven ability to work independently in regulated environments
Core Responsibilities (Both Levels)
Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain accurate inspection, testing and maintenance records
- Support survey readiness (CMS, State, Accreditation)
- Ensure facility systems meet safety and operational standards
Projects and Infrastructure
- Assist with renovation and infrastructure improvement projects
- Support PMC's long-term facility replacement planning initiatives
- Coordinate with vendors, utilities and external contractors
Emergency and On-Call
- Participate in on-call rotation
- Respond to infrastructure failures or facility emergencies
- Support disaster preparedness and continuity of operations
Working Conditions
Work occurs in mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawl spaces, electrical rooms and construction areas. Physical activity may include lifting, climbing ladders, confined space entry, and exposure to varying environmental conditions. On-call, after-hours, and emergency response are required components of the position.

Requirements for Employment Include --
- Background Check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation conducted by the State of Alaska in accordance with applicable regulations
- Drug Screening. All employees must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for marijuana
- Immunization Compliance. Employees are required to meet all immunization requirements as mandated by the State of Alaska and Federal regulations governing healthcare facilities
