Position Summary
The Kitchen Supervisor at PMC manages the daily kitchen operations, leading staff to ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient food service by overseeing prep, cooking, presentation, and adherence to sanitation standards, while training new cooks.

Key Responsibilities Include
- Staff supervision and training: assign tasks, manage breaks, train new hires, coach existing staff.
- Maintain a professional environment for all employees, including a calm demeanor, problem solving, and conflict resolution.
- Food quality and standards: ensure all dishes meet quality, presentation, portion, and workflow.
- Sanitation and safety: enforce strict health, hygiene, and safety regulations (HACCP) help to maintain a clean kitchen.
- Workforce and supervision: optimize kitchen efficiency, timing, and support of cooks.
- Mission, vision, and values: demonstrate and uphold Petersburg Medical Center's mission, vision, and values in all aspects of the role.
Qualifications
- Serve Safe Manager Certification (required).
- Cooking experience at PMC kitchen (required).
- Additional food service supervision or hospitality training is a plus.
- At least 2 years of experience in a supervisor or lead role.
- Experience in institutional or healthcare food service is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with dietary guidelines (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, and altered texture diets) is an advantage.
Key Skills
- Advanced knowledge of food preparation techniques (e.g., roasting, sauteing, baking, cold prep, sauce making).
- Leading and supervision: ability to lead a kitchen team, train staff, and manage workflow during high-volume service.
- Food safety knowledge: strong understanding of sanitation standards and HACCP protocols.
- Organization and time management: efficient in production planning and executing, task delegation, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
- Work requires standing for most of the shift. Includes lifting, pushing, bending, squatting, reaching, and carrying heavy items (up to 50 pounds).
- Handles and manipulates equipment.
- Helps on Mondays to put away the food order.
Working Environment
Works in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated kitchen. Loud noises and hot / cold temperatures variations are normal. Normal kitchen hazards are present, e.g., potential for cuts, burns, etc.
Requirements for Employment
- Background Check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background investigation conducted through the State of Alaska in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Drug Screening. All employees must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for marijuana.
- Immunization Compliance. Employees are required to meet all immunization requirements as mandated by the State of Alaska and Federal regulations governing healthcare facilities.
