Ridge Marina - Marine Service Technician/Boat Mechanic

Reports to: Marina Manager

The Marine Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining boats, marine engines, personal watercraft units, off-road vehicles, and related systems to manufacturer specifications and dealership standards. This position performs inspections, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, installations, and repairs while accurately documenting work performed. The service technician works closely with service department personnel including; management, parts, warranty, and service advisors to ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently, accurately, to customers standards, and within established timelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Service, diagnose and make repairs on all types of boats and marine engines including inboards, outboards, sterndrives, PWCs, and off-road vehicles

Ability to provide your own basic hand tools; Specialty tools will be provided

Examine units and discuss the nature and extent of damage or malfunction with the service advisor

Complete pre and post work walk around of all units and record photos using this as a tool to upsell by letting service advisors know of any additional items that may need to be addressed

Make lake service calls and trailer boats to the lake for testing when necessary

Complete all work tasks assigned as safely and efficiently as possible

Ensure the service work performed completes the work order

Complete all required paperwork or computer/database entries for job assigned, making all necessary remarks legibly on the work order, warranty parts, return parts, etc.

Assist in moving in and out of boat show and other lake events when needed

Submit suggestions for work improvements to Service Manager

Strictly comply with all company policies regarding safety, use of tools, equipment and vehicles

Attend additional technical training schools and complete vendor scheduled training as necessary

Work with integrity and respect for fellow co-workers while following company policy

Weekend work required

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with engines, mechanical systems, or related equipment

Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair marine engines and boat systems

Basic understanding of electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, propulsion, and other marine systems

Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Ability to safely operate, move, launch and retrieve boats is required

Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely and effectively

Ability to work independently while also collaborating with Service Advisors and other technicians

Ability to accurately document repairs, parts used, diagnostic findings, and labor performed

Ability to prioritize work and complete repairs within established timelines

Valid driver's and vessel license and acceptable driving record

Ability to pass a pre-employment background/drug screen

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work Environment: Work occurs in indoor and outdoor setting, often in variable weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and humidity. The noise level is typically moderate to loud. Exposure to mechanical fluids, oils and cleaning products is common. This role involves working near and around water, docks and marine equipment. Occasional travel between storage yards or customer sites is required.

Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, climb, lift and carry heavy loads. Must be able to maneuver safely on and around vessels, trailers and uneven surfaces. Required hand-eye coordination for operating equipment and machinery. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. Safety awareness, balance and stamina are essential.
