Community Health Worker

Rural Border Intervention (RBI) Program (Val Verde County)

Seeking highly motivated and responsible individual that wants to work in the field of drug prevention and intervention.

Founded in 1982, in Laredo, Texas, SCAN is a leading provider of social services in South Texas. SCAN's Rural Border Intervention Program provides integrated prevention and intervention services and facilitates access to behavioral health services for youth (13-17) and adults (18+) who are at-risk of developing substance use disorders.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Conduct ongoing outreach in the community including presentations to let youth, adults and agencies/ organizations know about the program and the services that it provides.
• Screen and assess participants for program eligibility and to determine individualized needs.
• Provide referrals and referral follow-ups to meet the comprehensive needs of participants.
• Provide motivational interviewing sessions to participants.
• Provide ongoing case management services.
• Participate in community health risk prevention activities.
• Conduct educational alternative activities to youth and adults.
• Accurately document all activities and services provided.

Qualifications:

• An associate's degree (or at least 60 hours of college/university credits) or a bachelor's degree in the behavioral sciences or closely related field are required.
• Prior drug prevention or intervention experience with youth or adults is preferred.
• Good bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are required.
• A valid TX driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation are required.

Work Schedule and Compensation:

The flexible work schedule is 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Salary: $17-$18 per hour depending on qualifications.
