Job Description
We are currently seeking an Accounting Technician to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential accounting support to programs across the organization by assisting with invoice processing, deposits, reconciliations, and general accounting functions. This position plays an important role in ensuring financial accuracy and supporting the day-to-day operations of our mission-driven work.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with financial data, spreadsheets, and accounting systems. You should be able to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality while collaborating with colleagues and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Process invoices for the organization and its related entities, ensuring accurate, timely weekly payments.
- Prepare, organize, and file accounting documents and records.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and vendor statements.
- Communicate with internal staff, partners, and vendors regarding invoices, payments, and account information.
- Process and post accounting data, including sorting, coding, verifying, and maintaining accurate records.
- Post accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash disbursements.
- Review invoices, identify discrepancies, research issues, and ensure expenses are posted to the appropriate accounts.
- Address routine billing discrepancies and communicate with vendors to resolve issues.
- Prepare and issue checks as required.
- Support additional accounting functions such as petty cash, reconciliations, and account close-outs.
- Review work for accuracy and consistency.
- Assist with general office and administrative accounting tasks.
- Some positions may specialize in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, or provide backup Payroll support.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Must Haves
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy, organization, and confidentiality.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Prior office or administrative work experience.
- Basic knowledge of accounts payable and accounting processes.
- Familiarity with double-entry accounting, journal entries, and trial balances.
- Associate’s degree (AA/AS) in Accounting, Business, or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
