Concrete Finisher (Plant Division)

Job Description


Candidates for the Concrete Finisher position should have the skills and knowledge to perform the following:

-Place, vibrate, level and finish concrete surfaces are the focal job duty. Check the concrete forms for appropriate depths and angles before the concrete is poured. Remove surface imperfections before the concrete has fully hardened. Clearly communicate with other contractors and employees to coordinate job stages / phases.

-Experience and Requirements:

-Must have a minimum of 5 years of concrete placement and finishing experience in the field of heavy commercial, bridge, and preferably water and wastewater treatment plant construction. Good hand and power tool skills are a must. Finisher must make sure the concrete is safe, sound and attractive to meet the requirements of the project specifications. Must have an advanced knowledge of surface designs that prevent slippage and water collection. Basic math skills are required to insure accurately calculated dimensions of forms and ordered concrete quantity.

-Working Conditions:

-Most concrete finishers work on a job site outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat, cold and precipitation. The work may be labor-intensive as concrete finishing typically involves lifting and positioning of finishing tools and equipment. Some job sites also require a concrete finisher to climb in and out of foundation pits, tanks and multiply elevated structures.

-Education:

-A college degree is not required; however, a high school diploma is and concrete finishing experience is required. On the job training is available to advance a concrete finishers career.
