Job Description

Director of Safety & Risk Management

Location: Tampa, Florida (Supporting Hillsborough, Pinellas & Pasco Counties)

Join a Company That Runs Toward the Storm.

At Steadfast, we believe our greatest responsibility is taking care of our people.

Our field teams are the heart of everything we do, and our leadership team exists for one purpose:

We Support Field Operations

Safety isn't about saying "no." It's about helping our crews perform exceptional work safely, efficiently, and confidently.

Our culture is built around The Steadfast Way:

  • Run Toward the Storm
  • Move As One
  • Stand Firm in Faith

We believe when we serve our field operations well, we strengthen the entire herd.

If you're a safety leader who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, coaching people, and helping operations succeed—not someone who leads through fear or bureaucracy—we'd love to meet you.

Position Summary

The Director of Safety & Risk Management serves as a strategic leader responsible for protecting over 350 employees while supporting the continued growth of one of Tampa Bay's premier commercial landscape contractors.

Reporting directly to executive leadership, this position leads the company's Environmental, Health, Safety, Fleet Safety, and Risk Management programs across all divisions.

More importantly, this leader becomes a trusted partner to Operations.

Your mission is simple:

Create an environment where every employee has the training, equipment, leadership, and confidence to return home safely every day.

What Success Looks Like

Success isn't measured by paperwork.

It's measured by trust.

Our best Safety Director will:

  • Be respected by field employees.
  • Coach instead of criticize.
  • Solve problems alongside Operations.
  • Build relationships with supervisors.
  • Help crews work smarter and safer.
  • Earn credibility by being present in the field—not behind a desk.

This position spends significant time where the work happens.

  • Inspire employees through leadership, coaching, and accountability.
  • Reinforce The Steadfast Way in every interaction.

Support Field Operations

  • Maintain OSHA logs and required documentation.
  • Manage company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct facility and jobsite audits.

Training & Development

  • Lead new employee safety orientation.
  • Develop leadership safety training.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and ongoing education.
  • Mentor supervisors to become stronger safety leaders.

Incident Management

  • Lead investigations involving injuries, property damage, and vehicle incidents.
  • Identify root causes.
  • Implement corrective actions.
  • Share lessons learned across the company.

Fleet Safety

  • Oversee driver qualification files.
  • Improve driver performance.
  • Monitor telematics and vehicle safety programs.
  • Reduce preventable vehicle accidents.

Risk Management

  • Partner with Human Resources on Workers' Compensation.
  • Assist with insurance audits.
  • Support customer safety prequalification.
  • Monitor safety metrics and KPI reporting.
