HIGHWAY / ROAD CONSTRUCTION STRIPING TECHNICIANS

Job Description

Arrow Concrete & Asphalt Specialties is seeking Road Construction Pavement Striping Technicians to become part of our Highway Striping Team. We are a busy construction firm and are looking to hire dedicated Pavement Marking (Striping) Technicians. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance and installation of traffic stripes, pavement markings, traffic signs and traffic control related appurtenances.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Drive, operate and maintain paint/thermoplastic equipment for application on parking areas, highways, roadways, airport runways, etc.
  • Performance check of various components of pavement marking equipment including air compressor, auxiliary engines, pumps, heaters, hydraulic systems, paint/thermoplastic/air/water and hydraulic lines, striping guns, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and report unresolved problems
  • Ability to operate optical sight or mechanical pointer, lasers and cameras to guide striper on previously painted lines.
  • Read, interpret and follow blue prints, drawings and specifications as required to layout unmarked areas of pavement markings
  • Perform arithmetic calculations
  • Operate and maintain an airless walk behind paint striper to apply various pavement markings
  • Drive, operate and maintain stripe removal equipment by shot blasting or grinding the removal of existing stripes and pavement markings
  • Drive, operate and maintain sweeper truck, ride-on sweeper and vacuum equipment for dusty and debris removal
  • Drive, operate and maintain thermoplastic striper truck, pavement marker truck and equipment, and pressurized paint striping equipment etc.
  • Operate and assist in the operation of vehicles, trailers and equipment, to include backup driving operations
  • Perform manual labor including the use of hand tools and various other equipment
  • Perform and complete all work in compliance with DOT and quality guidelines, while maximizing production.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspection forms, and ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Properly load material on trucks.
  • Maintain proper safety equipment and uniform required for each job.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Previous experience in pavement marking, highway construction, asphalt paving, or a related field, is a plus.
  • Must pass pre-employment background checks for criminal record, driving record, and controlled substance/drug testing.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record, a CDL license is preferred.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal driving rules and regulations.
  • Required: Pass a DOT physical and drug test (ability to remain drug free throughout employment)
  • Carry out simple arithmetic functions.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and experience working with mechanics.
  • Knowledge and ability to adapt to the latest technology, including smart phones and applications.
  • Ability to adjust to changing work schedule.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds to 100 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift and move more than 100 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to outside weather conditions, moving equipment and machinery parts, moving traffic, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Noise level of the work environment is moderate to loud.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Job functions are carried out in difficult and frequently hazardous working environments, to include extreme temperatures, extensive direct sunlight, night work, heavy traffic situations.
  • Exposure to noise at moderate levels
  • Frequent exposure to paint, thermoplastic, paint fumes, thermoplastic fumes, bituminous adhesive, chemicals, chemical fumes and other environmental substances
  • Continuous strenuous activities such as repetitive reaching, bending, lifting, twisting, kneeling, squatting and pulling, prolonged periods of standing and walking, operating motorized equipment and vehicles
  • Essential job function requires maintaining physical conditions necessary for light to heavy lifting and moving equipment
  • Frequently lifting to 50lbs and occasional lifting up to 100lbs
  • Require fine manual dexterity skills for machinery operation, joysticks, knobs, buttons, handles, toggle and rocker switches
AVAILABILITY:

  • Monday – Friday.
  • Must be able to work some nights and weekends.
  • Must be able to work overtime.
  • Must be able to travel when necessary.

You will be trained to operate different types of equipment, including: Thermoplastic Truck, Paint Truck, Hand Machines, Hand Grinder, Forklift, 3M Hand-Tape Machine, 3M Adhesive Applicator and Hand Roller Tamper Cart.
