Job Description

Job Requirements

1. To obtain employment as a lifeguard, one has to be an excellent swimmer along with possessing certification in lifesaving issued by the Red Cross, or other certified instructor.
2. Specific training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is also one of the prerequisites for this position.
3. A lifeguard must be able to carry a 50-pound weight a distance of 50 feet.
4. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both speaking & writing.

Job Description

• Be timely
• Be courteous towards our guests, and project a professional image
• Maintain continuous surveillance of people in swimming pools
• Ensure appropriate headcount of swimmers
• Call out warnings to people who are in imminent danger, or who are violating the pool rules
• Provide safety information to swimmers
• Supervise swimmers to ensure that they are swimming within the safety protocols
• Spot hazards or potential hazards and take measures to prevent accidents
• Control and report unruly behavior and evict individuals not adhering to behavior protocols
• Perform rescues in the event of drowning or swimming accidents
• Perform first aid and CPR according to the demands of adverse situations
• Perform pool chemical checks to ensure safety and hygiene
• Maintain entire pool, pool deck, waterline and other surfaces for cleanliness and safety
• Maintain accurate records of chemical levels
• Inspect and maintain rescue tubes, buoys and other safety equipment
• Ensure that all pool equipment is stored safely

Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour

End of Season Bonus: $0.50 per hour for each hour worked during season; must be in good standing through Labor Day (Monday, 9/3/18); will not be awarded if any unexcused absences, or for poor performance issues.

Uniforms:

The Company will provide

2 white “Lifeguard” t-shirts
1 red “Lifeguard” pullover hooded sweatshirt
1 red “Lifeguard” visor

The Lifeguard must provide:

Females-
1-piece or 2-piece red lifeguard swimsuit, NO STRINGS (“Lifeguard” markings are optional)
red swim trunks (“Lifeguard” markings are optional)
Sunglasses, sunscreen
Sweatpants may optionally be worn on chilly days, preferably red with no markings.

Males-
red swim trunks (“Lifeguard” markings are optional)
Sunglasses, sunscreen
Sweatpants may optionally be worn on chilly days, preferably red with no markings.


Work Schedule for 2018:
1. Life guards will work a minimum of three 10-hour days, Monday through Saturday; plus one 5-hour shift on Sunday.

Normal shifts are from 8:30am to 6:30pm; Monday through Saturday (3 days will be assigned)
Sunday shifts are either 8:30 to 1:30pm (AM shift), or 1:30pm to 6:30pm (PM shift)
Exception: Baywood, Bayside 2 & Lakeside pools are 1 hour delayed on alternating days

2. 5/21 to 5/25: PRE-SEASON Preparation (selected staff only)
3. 5/26 to 5/28: OPEN for Memorial Day Holiday Weekend (selected staff only)
4. 6/2 to 6/3: OPEN for Weekend (selected staff only)
5. 6/9 to 9/3: OPEN every day through Labor Day
6. 9/8 to 9/9: Only Baywood & Lakeside pools OPEN (selected staff only)
7. A 20-minute paid lunch break will be provided each day
8. Exact work schedules will be arranged two weeks in advance for each staff member.
