Athletics Communications/Marketing Manager



Job Description
The Communications/Marketing Manager, with oversight from the Athletics Director and in coordination with the Operations Manager for the Athletics Department, is responsible for creating awareness and ensuring brand integrity of the Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska athletics programs and increasing membership numbers over all sports. Additionally, the Communications/Marketing Manager will oversee sponsorship fulfillment by maintaining current and establishing new corporate partnerships. The Communications/Marketing Manager is a position with minimal oversight.

MINIMUM SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Two years’ experience in coordinating youth sports and events
Volunteer coordination experience highly desired
Computer skills with basic MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and database experience
Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of hire
Valid Alaska drivers' license; 3 years good driving record; and insured, reliable vehicle
Must be able to pass criminal records check

DESIRED SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Marketing or Business degree (or equivalent experience)
Three or more years’ sports management experience
Two or more years coaching experience
Proven leadership and problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others

UNIQUE ASPECTS TO THIS POSITION
The Communications/Marketing Manager must be self-motivated, able to resolve conflicts judiciously, and able to solve problems quickly and objectively. He/she must also have the ability to communicate effectively using a variety of electronic, oral, and written methods, is capable of managing multiple tasks and meet deadlines. The Communications/Marketing Manager must be punctual and have reliable attendance in addition to having an outgoing personality. He/she must also be able to work with volunteers. The Communications/Marketing Manager must also be able to sit, walk, talk, see and hear while performing the duties of this position, able lift and move up to 50 pounds (reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions), and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and in environments where the noise level may be considered loud. He/she must also be able to work evenings or weekends as necessary. The use of personal vehicle to commute to site locations and run errands is also required. The Communications/Marketing Manager must possess the desire to excel and be willing to recommend methods to improve sports programs with the goal of the Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska Athletics Department becoming the premier athletics program in the nation.

JOB DUTIES
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
1. In cooperation with Athletics Department Staff, assist in planning and implementing seasonal and annual marketing strategies and branding efforts
2. Build Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska brand awareness through outreach programs and promotions
3. Develop relationships with schools, clubhouses, and other organizations to maximize exposure and to coordinate distribution of announcements and registration materials in promoting the athletic programs
4. Develop, draft and distribute parent/player/coach communications to announce relevant deadlines, seasons, events, etc.
5. Develop and conduct marketing and business development, public relations, and external communications efforts
6. Manage mid-season and end of season surveys and use data to make recommendations to improve the program
7. Oversee the purchasing and distribution of player awards and coaches gifts
8. Act as point-of-contact in coordinating team and player photo events
9. Service existing sponsor’s accounts and assist in creating new ideas to increase sponsorship revenue
10. Oversee and work with vendors on sponsor placement on uniforms and equipment as well as placement on the website and other digital media outlets
11. Manage the distribution of sponsors plaques and other means of sponsor recognition
12. Act as webmaster and social media manager for Athletics Facebook, Instagram, Twitters, etc.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
1. Ensure that registration processes for each sport are continually reviewed and modified to provide a professional registration service to all clients
2. Recruit, screen, select, monitor performance of and recognize volunteers in accordance with Boys & Girls Clubs policies and procedures
3. Provide all necessary training and communication to volunteers & contract personnel
4. Monitor and report on progress of registration numbers, fees, and goals as requested

General Duties & Responsibilities
1. Observe BGC policies and procedures for recording and reporting incidents, at-risk youth, and suspected child abuse.
2. During each sport seasons, work hours which may include presence at athletic venues
3. Provide responsive, professional customer service by answering inquiries from players, guardians, coaches, and others in a timely manner.
4. Maintain security of confidential membership and volunteer records per Boys & Girls Club policies & procedures.
5. Ensure professional ethics and rules of conduct are followed.
6. Provide front counter customer service as needed.
7. Participate in facility emergency response team as necessary.
8. Assure secure opening & closing of Athletics/Clubhouse facility as necessary.
9. Participate in clubhouse special events/outreach activities as needed.
10. Assist with clubhouse facility upkeep as needed/requested.
11. May assist as backup for clubhouse instructors in case of emergency or staff shortage.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a regular, full-time position, 40hrs/wk, $15.50/hr DOE/Q with a competitive benefits package.

Boys & Girls Club Child Development Center also offers an enrichment program that provides a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive childcare setting for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Staff members are trained in early childhood development and offer the children support, encouragement, and consistency.
