Staff Accountant

Job Description

Are you looking for an exciting Accounting career? CA Lawton is looking for a Staff accountant.

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant will provide administrative and financial support services. The position will work closely with management and other accounting staff to facilitate analyses and timely reporting of operating results and financial position of the company.


• General Accounting
o Facilitates and completes monthly close procedures which includes preparing and posting journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts as needed

o Responsible for preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule including analysis results

o Perform monthly bank reconciliations for checking and payroll accounts.

o Assists with preparation and data collection for various external audits

o Assists in monitoring internal controls and advises Accounting Manager of suspected or confirmed control or fraud issues

o Responsible for the coordination of quarterly physical inventories and follow up and recording results

o Maintains fixed asset activity including tracking projects and processing additions and disposals in Asset Keeper fixed asset system

o Process, reconcile credit card payments and code to proper account

• Payroll
o Assist with various regulatory reporting (workers comp audit, 401k uploads, etc).

o Assist with payroll processing questions and issues as needed.

o Issue manual payroll checks as necessary under the direction of the Accounting and/or HR Manager

o Coordinate and communicate special payroll timing, needs, and changes to the organization as guided by the Accounting and/or HR Manager

o Assist with time and attendance as needed

• Accounts Receivable and Returns Activities
o Process customer invoices daily and credit memos as needed

o Post all cash receipts and monitor the accounts receivable aging for timely collection

• Other Duties
o Completes all requested internal and external reporting

o Assist with centralized Accounts Payable questions as needed

o Other duties as assigned


Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressively more responsible experience as an accountant in a manufacturing environment

• Clear understanding of accounting practices and standards; working knowledge of GAAP

• Ability to perform duties and operate independently with minimal daily direction

• Efficient user of Microsoft office products especially Excel and ability to pick up ERP systems quickly

• Ability to consistently meet deadlines and to effectively alert management of barriers

• Solid written and verbal communication skills coupled with effective listening skills

• Able to recognize and respect confidential information

• Continuous improvement mindset towards all tasks

• Prepared to work as a team with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, problem solving, and results

• Ability to multi-task and keep a flexible schedule to best serve management needs

• Able to maintain high levels of activity or productivity
