JOB SUMMARY: The Direct Support Professional is a residential position in a group home for adults with intellectual disabilities. He/she assists the Program Manager and Assistant Program Manager with daily activities for the residents, including housekeeping and home maintenance; socializing activities, supportive counseling, planning leisure activities, being aware of medical needs and monitoring medications, teaching of living skills and food preparation. The major emphases are in the areas of personal hygiene/grooming, housekeeping skills, independent living skills, social adjustment and cooking.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Provide direct services to resident to accomplish individual service plan goals and objectives. • Maintain daily log in the absence of the Program Manager or Assistant Program Manager. • Plan and implement leisure time activities for residents. • Provide training to residents on daily living skills. • Provide transportation as needed and scheduled. • Ensure building and grounds are kept clean and maintained. • Provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling as needed. • Act as positive role model for residents. • Provide emotional support and set limits when appropriate. • Communicate with Program Manager any concerns about program of residents in care. • Provide support and encouragement for culturally related life practices and experiences for the resident in care and the family receiving services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Graduation from high school or equivalent. • Some experience working with persons who have intellectual disabilities or in a related human services field preferred. • Provide “TB free” documentation. • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record. • Complete all required background checks and successfully pass drug test
