Overview of Position:

Under the Direction of the Financial Controller, the Accountant oversees day to day management of financial programs, Accounts Recievable/Payable, expense reporting and legdger reconciliations. Accountant will perform moderately complex accounting activities and functions, including monitoring accounts, preparing documentation, expenditure reconciliations and reviews, revenue reporting/accounting, purchases and reimbursements, general ledger transactions, journal entries and assist with payroll. The person filling the accountant position will be expected to utilize current financial application software and payroll services as well as effectively maintain effective budgeting practices. Carries out all duties in accordance with rules, regulations, and policies set forth by local, state, federal agencies and the College.

Responsibilities:

1. Under the direction of the Financial Controller, manages the financial operations and accounting duties of the College.
1.1. Review, process, gather, and compile accounting transactions and documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance within college policies. Contribute to development of analyses to be used for key activities or decision-making regarding budgets and finance planning.
1.2. Oversees/manages direct reports and assigned department(s) (defining/outlining roles and responsibilities, Identify, prioritize, and resolve accounting issues); probe beyond stated situation; identify underlying issues; recognize exceptions; perform preliminary analysis.
1.3. Calculate, maintain, reconcile, review, combine, analyze and validate financial data sets, utilizing financial reports, financial databases, and key financial information often from multiple systems. Assist in the preparation of basic management information reports.
1.4. Work with authorized vendors to ensure timely payments are made. Reconcile accounts related to vendor payments.
1.5. Assist in the preparation of regular and special financial and statistical statement and reports, including those required during the annual audit.
1.6. Prepare assigned monthly bank reconciliations and account analysis (including, but not limited to federal funds, investments, tax withholding accounts and receivables) and conduct related follow up and resolution of reconciling items with various departments within a timely manner.
1.7. Conduct audits to review and manage journal entries, financial reports, and accounts to resolve errors, miscalculations, anomalies, and deviations from established protocols and practices.
1.8. Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual audited financial reports as assigned.

2. Provides assistance and direction to College departments in the development of annual budgets.
2.1. In accordance with the regulatory environment, develops, maintains and presents policies and protocols regarding budgeting and fiscal planning to department representatives. Reviews approved budgets prior to submission to administration, CFO, and board of trustees and provides clarification, direction, and compliance to policies. (identifying errors and issues of importance, conducting informational training, soliciting feedback and evaluation, etc.)
2.2. Assists in the development of financial policies and for interpreting, understanding and implementing the laws, regulations, and guidelines related to finance department.

3. Assist with payroll, expense reimbursement and expenditure tracking.
3.1. Responsible for assisting in the accurate and timely processing of monthly payroll; preparation of related reports/reconciliations, and performing monthly benefits provider payments.
3.2. Interface with Human Resources and PEO provider to ensure efficient flow of information and payroll system updates.
3.3. Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion ensuring compliance with college policies and state and federal guidelines; and assist with other payroll related functions as required.
3.4. Review reimbursement requests: (Relocation, supplies, materials, transportation, travel, professional development, and tuition reimbursement) for accuracy, compliance with policy, proper approval, and budget allowances, and remit payment of reimbursement once approved.

4. Actively engages in the advancement of the College.
4.1. Builds collaborative partnership opportunities across and among various entities participating in networking opportunities, [internal and external partners [elected officials, state constitutional officers, business and community leaders] other colleges and universities, hospitals, local organizations, societies, etc.] promoting relationships with the College.
4.2. Refers to and coordinates in advance with the Communications team in the Office of the President on all media contacts, communications, and/or interactions to include message, promotion, etc. in which asked to serve as an official representative, content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College.
4.3. Coordination in advance with the Communications team in the Office of the President on all Noorda-COM related legislative issues to include contact with the national, state, and local government officials, whether in official College capacity or with a national, state, or local organization.
4.4. Serves on various committees and teams within the College as assigned (attending meetings, contributing to discussions, sharing/exchanging information, and leading constituents toward goal attainment) to include advising and mentoring (students, clubs, campus organizations).
4.5. Contributes to College’s compliance with and in the development of required documentation as related to accreditation of all programs to which departmental content is contributed. (faculty adequacy model, gathering data, self-assessment, peer review, providing input/feedback, etc.) aiding in the attainment of academic compliance.
4.6. Participates in the production of various College materials [annual budgets, strategic planning, directory, College website, etc.] (collecting/preparing materials, organizing/formatting data, adhering to various deadlines, reviewing drafts, providing input/feedback, etc.).
4.7. Contributes to the College’s reputation/image of being one of the best osteopathic medical colleges (monitoring outcomes, partnering with internal and external stakeholders, modifying techniques, etc.).

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree required in business, finance, accounting or related field. CPA and/or a master’s degree is preferred. Certification in business finance or a related area is highly preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a financial department in a higher education setting is preferred. Experience in grant management is preferred along with demonstrated effectiveness, knowledge, and experience in accounting practice, use of financial related software, and business administration.

Skills & Abilities: Highly professional with honest, genuine, direct communication style, excellent interpersonal skills and emotional maturity with the essential ability to demonstrate tact, discretion and job diplomacy. Significant understanding of higher education financial departments with proven knowledge of budget, fiscal management and experience include working and building relationships with staff, faculty and administration. Proven track record of quality, integrity and trustworthiness. Ability to make common sense, consistent and fair decisions (based on fact and data) and have courage of convictions and tolerance for ambiguity.

Must be:
• Proficient in MS Excel to analyze and interpret financial data and to prepare financial reports
• Experience working in Canvas, or similar Learning Management System (LMS).
• 3+ years of accounting related experience to include journal entries, account analysis and reconciliations.
• Experience in QuickBooks and managing payroll responsibilities
• Administering and monitoring program budgets
• Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with coworkers
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
• The ability to interpret and provide guidance to principal investigators in the application of general and specific funding policies, regulations, and requirements
• Ability to learn, understand and apply the College’s restricted and unrestricted accounting policies
• Ability to meet deadlines while working in a team environment is essential
• Experience in payroll entry and approval process

The Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking qualified candidates to support our unique, innovative curricular model designed for a modern-day medical school. We have received pre-accreditation status with the Commission for Osteopathic College Accreditation and enrolled our first 90 medical students in Fall 2021. Located in the beautiful Utah Valley in Provo, the campus is surrounded by the Wasatch Mountain range and Utah Lake. We will admit our second cohort of 135 medical students in Fall 2022 and have a new academic building under construction which is scheduled to open in Summer 2023.
