Position: Network Administrator

Department: Technology Operations  


Summary of Position:

The Network Administrator’s role is to ensure the stable and secure operation of The Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine’s wired and wireless computer networks. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, securing, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. This Network Administrator will also analyze and resolve end user hardware and software connectivity problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training where required.



1.     Administration of Network

1.1.  Manage and maintain the organization’s wired and wireless network.

1.2.  Perform network design, optimization and capacity planning.

1.3.  Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, wireless access points, and UPSs.

1.4.  Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, security, and disaster recovery.

1.5.  Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.

1.6.  Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specification information.

1.7.  Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.


2.     Customer Service

2.1.  Collaborate with team members in providing superb customer service.

2.2.  Ensure network connectivity of all workstations, wireless devices and printers.

2.3.  Assist with installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.

2.4.  Assist with the administration of servers, cloud services, and their associated operating systems and software.

2.5.  Document service incidents, reporting outages and recording up-time and performance metrics for the purpose of auditing, assessment and continuous improvement of the performance of the network computing environment of the College


3.     Network Security

3.1.  Manage network security solutions, including firewall, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.

3.2.  Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.

3.3.  Assist in the deployment of updates and upgrades to all equipment, hardware and software.

3.4.  Assist in the administration and maintenance end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.

3.5.  Manage servers, security solutions, network hardware and equipment and ensure network is in working order.

3.6.  Run security tests, system back-up and recovery.

3.7.  Perform server and security audits.

3.8.  Perform system backups and recovery.

3.9.  Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.

Education:           Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in computer information systems, computer science or related field.  Equivalent years’ experience and current industry certifications may be substituted for a degree. CompTIA Network+, CCNA or equivalent networking credential preferred.

Experience:         At least two years’ experience in supporting an enterprise network infrastructure.   Previous knowledge and/or experience working with Microsoft Windows servers and Active Directory domains is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:               Highly professional with honest, genuine, direct communication style. Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional maturity with the essential ability to demonstrate tact, discretion, and job diplomacy. Proven track record of quality, integrity, and trustworthiness.


Must have:

·        Experience with TCP/IP protocol and Ethernet networks

·        Experience with managed edge switching

·        Experience with enterprise wireless systems

·        Experience with DHCP and DNS services.

·        Ablity to work independently yet is an effective participant in team environment.

·        Excellent follow through skills

·        Strong organization and communication skills with a high attention to detail.

·        Previous working experience requiring a high-level of customer service.

·        Experience working well in a team environment.

·        Demonstrated initiative as a motivated “self-starter”.

·        Experience troubleshooting hardware and software problems.

·        Experience designing, implementing and documenting network configurations.

·        Ability to be on-call on weekends and nights

Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine

The Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking qualified candidates to support our unique, innovative curricular model designed for a modern-day medical school. We have received pre-accreditation status with the Commission for Osteopathic College Accreditation and enrolled our first 90 medical students in Fall 2021. Located in the beautiful Utah Valley in Provo, the campus is surrounded by the Wasatch Mountain range and Utah Lake. We will admit our second cohort of 135 medical students in Fall 2022 and have a new academic building under construction which is scheduled to open in Summer 2023.
