Job Summary
The Activities Coordinator / Adult Day Program Aide will be responsible for the planning and supervision of the activity schedule and programming for the Adjust Day Program.  Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provides individual and group activities that help participants maintain independence, allows participation in past hobbies and interests, encourages social interaction, and focuses on the needs and interests of the participants.
  • Works with other departments such as the Rehab therapies and Home Health to provide therapeutic recreation and may lead activities or assist participants in maximizing active participation.
  • Plan and implement special meals and potlucks.
  • Works with Long Term Care staff, activity staff, volunteers and community members to create a diverse and inclusive program.
  • Helps escort participants to functions within the community and to planned outings.
  • Keep daily recreational records for each participant.
  • Assist with the scheduled program meetings.  May be asked to keep minutes of meetings.  
  • Serves as a participant's rights advocate.
  • Provides one-on-one interactions and activities for those participants unable to participate in-group activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours
  • Schedule is primarily dayshift hours of 7 am - 12:30 pm.  There is a potential for this position to transition to full time.  Flexibility is a must to allow for growth and program development.
  • All over must be pre-approved by the Program Director or designee.  
Qualifications
  • The Activities Coordinator / Adult Day Program Aide must be at least 21 years of age and MUST have:
  1. A degree in Recreational Therapy or closely related field  OR
  2. Two (2) years of full time or equivalent part time experience in planning and leading activities for populations similar to the program participants.
  • Be a Certified Nurse Assistant in the State of Alaska.
  • Be patient and handle situations with tact, enthusiasm and the ability to keep work related situations confidential.
  • Possess the skills and ability to work with the aged, chronically ill, Alzheimer patients and physically handicapped.
  • Must be able to classify functioning levels of the participants and provide activities to meet exercise needs, cultural needs, arts, crafts, sensory stimulation programs, group and one-on-one activities.
  • Shall maintain current CPR certification or be willing to become certified in CPR.
  • Will have an Alaska driver's license and complete the training to become a certified driver of the PMC handicapped van.
Accountability
  • The position reports to the Home Health Manager or designee.
  • Day to day direction and instruction will come primarily from the Program Manager.
