Community Health Worker/Promotora
Rural Border Intervention (RBI) Program (Maverick County)
●Seeking highly motivated and responsible individual that wants to work in the field of drug prevention and intervention.
Founded in 1982 in Laredo, Texas, SCAN is a leading provider of social services in South Texas. SCAN’s RBI Program was established to strengthen substance abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment services for adolescents and adults living in rural communities along the Texas-Mexico border. The RBI program focuses on providing evidence-based prevention and intervention services and linking program participants to available resources to meet their comprehensive needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Conduct ongoing outreach in the community, including colonias, to let youth, adults, agencies and organizations know about the program and the services that it provides.
• Assist the Program Director in recruiting and retaining program participants and developing collaborative relationships in the community among key stakeholders.
• Assist the Program Director in obtaining new written community agreements with collaborating agencies/organizations.
• Provide alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) positive alternative activities to youth and adult participants.
Qualifications:
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• Be certified as a community health worker/promotora or be able to become certified within 6 months of employment.
• Some knowledge of both local social service agencies and rural communities in the county.
• Good bilingual (English and Spanish) skills are required.
• A valid TX driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation are required.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
• The regular work schedule is 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday
through Friday. Some weekend work may also be required.
• Salary: $10.58 per hour
