Prevention Specialist- Full-Time Position Available
Futuros Saludables YPS Program (Webb County)
●Seeking a highly motivated and responsible individual that wants to work in the field of drug prevention and provide services to youth attending Elementary, Middle and High schools throughout Webb County.
Founded in 1982 in Laredo, Texas, SCAN is a leading provider of social services in South Texas. SCAN’s Futuros Saludables YPS Program was established to provide comprehensive substance use and misuse prevention services to male and female students in Kinder – 12th grade and who are at-risk of becoming involved with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. The Futuros Saludables Program utilizes the Positive Action Curriculum and links program participants to available resources to meet their comprehensive needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Conduct ongoing outreach in the community, to let youth, adults, agencies and organizations know about the program and the services that it provides.
• Screen and assess eligible participants.
• Provide curriculum-based education sessions to youth.
• Provide alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) presentations and positive alternative activities to youth and adult participants.
• Provide community-based education and mobilization activities to youth and adults.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in the behavioral sciences is preferred; however, degrees in other fields will be considered.
• Prior drug prevention experience with youth is preferred.
• Be knowledgeable of local social service agencies.
• Good bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus, but not required.
• Must have good computer skills.
• A valid TX driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation are required.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
• Flexible work schedule is 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
• Salary: $17.00 per hour.
