Job Description
Work with a great team in a friendly atmosphere for a well-established Assisted Living facility. We are looking for motivated people with a dedication to working with senior citizens in a residential setting. The mission of St. Ann’s Residence is to enhance the quality of life of older adults by providing a secure, comfortable, and homelike environment.

POSITION: Security Guard

DEPARTMENT: Administration

HOURS: 04:00 PM - 10:00 PM

SUPERVISOR: Director of Operations or Assistant Administrator

STATUS: Hourly, Non-exempt status, Non-union position

DESCRIPTION: This position has several specific areas of responsibilities. The key aspect of this position is flexibility, in order to meet the varied needs in the area of administration. Primary responsibilities include the safety of all residents and the property of St. Ann’s. This person will conduct safety and security inspections of the facility throughout the shift. This person will need to be able to convey information to residents, staff, and visitors in a courteous manner. Daily reports and incident reports will be completed regarding the shift and any pertinent information.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
•Perform security checks according to specific guard post and shift procedures. Turning off/on lights, locking/unlocking doors, foot patrol, and exterior door checks.

•Perform maintenance checks and patrols. Observing property, visitors, staff, and situations that might warrant investigation.

•Provide escort services for residents, visitors, and staff. Escorting personnel to their vehicles, escorting unauthorized/disruptive visitors off the property with minimum disruption.

•Complete various required reports and paperwork. Shift reports, incident reports, any unusual occurrences; doors found unlocked and any suspicious persons or activity during the course of the shift.

•Survey the property, residents, visitors, and staff at all times during the shift.

•Respond properly and rapidly to all emergency situations; such as fire drills, fire alarms, disaster plan exercises, and disasters.

•Acknowledge all radio calls and respond immediately.

•Notify proper personnel or authorities during emergencies.

•Observe and report any malfunctioning equipment or unlit exit lights, elevators, sliding doors, locks, or other machinery.

•Convey an approachable, courteous attitude to all persons when greeting people, giving directions, providing escorts, answering telephone calls, and attempting to solve problems.

•Maintain a neat and clean personal and security office appearance.

•Receive and disseminate security information directly to day-to-day security operations. Read all memos and new/revised security policies/procedures.

•Demonstrate working knowledge of fire and disaster emergency plans, location of policies/procedures for Safety and Infection Control, use of equipment, incident reporting, and accident/injury policies.

•Exemplify the caring mission of St. Ann’s Residence through kindness, helpfulness, respect, and hospitality extended to others.

•Deliveries of monthly notices, mailings, papers, etc.

•Raise and lower the American Flag as appropriate.

•Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Previous security experience desirable.

•High school education or GED desirable.

•Must possess a valid driver’s license with no violations.

•Must demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with employees, supervisors, and Department heads.

•Must be able to exhibit, institute, and uphold personal conduct on the job that is in accordance with St. Ann’s general rules of conduct.

•Must pass a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and FBI criminal records check.

•Must be able to pass a job-related physical examination.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Ability to run a flight of stairs, able to restrain persons, and rapidly respond to emergencies.

•Visual acuity

•Full range of motion to operate intercom system.

•Physically able and capable to assist a physically distressed resident.

•Must be pleasant and courteous with the public in stressful situations.

•Must be able to verbally communicate with the public and effectively provide detailed information to a wide variety of people.

•Must be able to read security policies, and write accurate/legible reports.
