REPORTS TO: Senior Manager of Housing

Summary of Position:

Specifically work in Shelter Plus Care Housing Department to expedite housing placements by providing housing navigation assistance to new referrals and existing clients. Such activities include coaching how to locate a unit, view the unit, and communicate with potential landlord. Provide brief housing crisis intervention using solution focused intervention within the framework of Housing First model.
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the Shelter Plus Care Processing team
• Provide housing navigation services
• Educate clients on housing placement process
• Educate client’s on his/her rights and responsibilities
• Advocate for clients during the housing placement process
• Teach the clients how to navigate housing searches
• Teach and model landlord relationship building and communication
• Provide transportation to clients to and from unit viewings
• Inspect units to ensure they will pass HQS Inspection in a timely manner
• Assist with initial housing case management by identifying and eliminating barriers to housing
• Collaborate with other providers of the client
• Assist with move-in coordination between Processing Center, Landlord, and client
• Maintain accurate documentation and updating ECM/HMIS regularly
• Establish and maintaining positive relationships with community landlords and agencies
• Provide brief housing crisis intervention to ensure client remains in good standing
• Handling other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Housing and Senior Director of Permanent Supportive Housing
Knowledge and Experience:
• College degree or Certified Peer Specialist Certificate
• Familiar with housing resources
• Must have own vehicle and class E driver’s license
• Familiar with MO tenant rights and laws
• Familiar with application process for housing
• Experience working with Mentally Ill and Chemical Dependent Populations
• Experience working with low-income and homeless families/individuals.
Skills and Attitude:
• Respect and responsibility for the agency policy, including client confidentiality
• Excellent listening skills
• Clerical (typing, word processing, filling, data entry, case note documentation)
• Ability to analyze problems and make sound decisions
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to give and receive useful feedback and instructions
• Ability to use Microsoft Office computer software
• Ability to network and work with other service providers
• Understanding of strength-base models of service delivery
