General Statement of Functions:
Coordinates care of the patient from Admission to Discharge.
Job Summary: Responsible for formulation of the initial plan of care if acting as the admitting nurse. Responsible for updating the plan of care as needed, following established Taylor Home Health Care policies and procedures. Provides direct care to patients. Provides supervision as needed to Nursing Assistants and Licensed Practical Nurses. Cooperates with other members of the Health Care Team in providing for the patient’s total needs. The RN must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient. In times of lull in census, may be asked to assist office Nursing Staff with duties such as re-certifications, discharge audits, performance improvement audit/activities, quality assurance audits/activities and other duties as deemed necessary by the Nursing Supervisor/Director.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Must have organizational and teaching abilities. Must be able to prioritize patient care issues and tasks, while supervising others effectively. Must be able to utilize initiative and independent action when required within the general framework of professional assignment. Must be able to utilize good judgment in evaluating alternatives in unorthodox situations. Must be able to work within the realization that errors in receiving and transcribing orders, giving medications, treatments, or performing other procedures and duties could have detrimental effects to the patients. Must have the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with Physicians, patients, caregivers and family members of patients. Must be able to work with accuracy under stress and emergency situations. Must act as a resource person to other members of the Healthcare Team in regard to assigned patients. Discretion when handling confidential information. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, as well as weekends to assist with support for the on-call RN. Must have current, non-restricted driver’s license and automobile liability insurance.
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Required: Current RN licensure by the Georgia State Board of Nursing. Current AHA BLS certification recommended for health care providers.
Training/Experience: Preferred in assigned or similar area
